About Lambeau Field

Perhaps the most legendary football stadium in the nation, Lambeau Field is the home of the Green Bay Packers, definitely one of the most legendary teams in the NFL. The official website calls it “hallowed ground,” and in this case, that description is not an exaggeration. Opened in 1957 as City Stadium, it was rededicated in 1965 as Lambeau Field in honor of Earl Lewis
“Curly” Lambeau, the first coach of the Packers.

Located at 1265 Lombardi Avenue, Green Bay, Wisconsin, the stadium currently has a capacity of 80,978. Built in the traditional bowl shape, Lambeau Field has been remodeled several times, with the latest update still taking place. Great care has been taken to maintain its retro look, which differentiates it from the more contemporary look of the other stadiums in the league.Green Bay/Brown County Professional Football Stadium District, owner of the stadium, takes pride in having avoided the “cookie cutter’ look of other venues throughout the country.

Lambeau Field is still an “old school stadium” despite its many upgrades because the field is not enclosed, meaning that the Packers must battle the elements. In Green Bay, Wisconsin, the elements are snow and cold, and lots of both. The Packers have thrived playing in these conditions, which have traditionally been hard on their opponents. The Packer’s record of wins at home is more than double that of their losses, and many players believe that good fortune is due to the fans and the stadium.

The facility offers many attractions for visitors, many housed in the Atrium. This attractive section is home to the Packers Hall of Fame, the Packers Pro Shop, and special events, such as weddings, receptions, or corporate gatherings. For dedicated “cheeseheads” this venue is prized above all others.

Many affordable accommodations are available for those visiting the stadium. As many football fans know, season tickets for the football team have been sold out since 1961, but individual tickets are still within reach of the average fan.

Fans of the Packers have rejected suggestions of a new stadium, preferring that management upgrade the original, much loved, facility. Decades of football pride are housed in the walls of historic Lambeau, and as a result, NFL fans all over the world honor the stadium as a symbol of sports greatness.
