General Sherman burned the city to the ground, making it the only city to be destroyed during a war. This act is why the city has a symbol of the Phoenix. Hartsfield-Jackson is the busiest airport in the world, so if you’re flying to Atlanta, consider getting a flight to a smaller airport. One of the largest exposed pieces of granite is located in Atlanta. It’s called Stone Mountain, and it’s a beautiful place to go for a hike. Atlanta hosted the Olympics in the summer of 1996.
If you like animals, then visit the Georgia Aquarium or the Zoo Atlanta. While at the aquarium, you can swim with whale sharks and scuba dive with the other animals in the water. The Atlanta Beltline is similar to a park in that there are trails to walk or bike on, but there isn’t really a lot of playground equipment for children. Atlantic Station is a place to visit if you like shopping. It features several small stores in one area so that you can conveniently walk from one vendor to another.
The Atlanta Motor Speedway is home to at least one NASCAR race during the year. This is a fun event featuring some of the best names in driving. Atlanta is home to the Braves, so catch a baseball game if you visit anytime from spring to fall. You can also watch an Atlanta Falcons football game in the fall. Call your inner child by riding some of the largest roller coasters in the country at Six Flags. Atlanta is a city that is busy all the time. It’s a city that never sleeps, so when you visit, you’ll always find something to keep you busy.
